FAQ

  • Ages signed-up

All ages are welcome to join in! as well as all abilities! We can teach from beginner level to world class level. We are experienced in coaching ages 3-58.

  • After school club

We are running our Learn2Skate sessions in partnership with your school – this means that these sessions are exclusive to students at your school only. The sessions are straight after school so please bring your skating kit with you at the start of the day.

If the session is full or a child from another school wants to participate, please communicate with Lauren about the Learn2Skate open sessions at an alternative venue.

  • Skates

We have skates that you can borrow each session but please make sure you have noted that on the registration form including size required – if you have not informed us of the size skates required, we cannot guarantee we will have skates for your skater to use. You are more than welcome to bring your own skates to the session. Skates must be well taken care of and handed back into one of the coaches at the end of every session. If you start bringing your own skates to sessions, we will not continue bringing skates for you to borrow.

  • Payments - termly skaters only

Payments are due on your first session. Payments not made within the first week of term will result in your skaters place being withdrawn and you will be invoiced for the sessions they have skated in. Cancelling your child’s space – for after school clubs you need to let us know 2 weeks in advance to cancel your skaters place. For holiday camps, payments must be made a week in advance and you must give a weeks’ notice to cancel your child’s space. You will be invoiced if we are not aware with a weeks’ notice.

  • Stars

Skaters have the chance to learn increasingly difficult skills as they advance through stars 1-10, each star passed earns the skater a badge. From January 2023, STAR badges will be an extra cost of £1.00 per badge. Parents will be invoiced this if a skater has earned a badge. Not all skaters will move through the STARs at the same pace, all skaters are on their own individual journey to confidence and skill. We encourage focusing on independent journeys rather than comparing with other skaters in the group.

Please note that for after school sessions, the main focus will not be on stars. If you would like to improve in your stars, please attend one of the community centre/leisure centre sessions.

  • Buying your own skates

Please do not buy skates unless you have consulted with a member of the team as there are a lot of skates out there which are not worth the price tag. When you have achieved your STAR 3 – a coach may discuss whether your skater should think about getting some professional roller skates.

  • Ethos

We believe all skaters should have equal opportunity to learn in a style that suits them and helps them progress every week. We are advocates for improving confidence and independence in all skaters. We create an environment which is safe to learn in, with no judgement or negativity. Our main aim is to learn skating skills whilst having fun and creating a supportive team spirit.

  • Protective gear

Skaters do not need to wear helmets, knee pads, wrist guards etc at these sessions. We increase the difficulty very slowly so that skaters are always learning but they are not exposed to dangerous skills when it is beyond their skill level. If you wish for your child to wear protective gear that is completely fine, however we do not supply this.
